River Plate suffered another heavy blow in the Torneo Clausura. The team led by Eduardo Coudet lost 1-0 to Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata in the second round of the championship, marking their fourth consecutive defeat in Argentine football and remaining without points in Zone B.
After the match, the Millonario coach spoke at a press conference and analyzed the complicated present of the team, which needs to react quickly to turn around its situation.
“It’s a very difficult moment. We have to work, we need to improve a lot, raise our levels significantly. We have the ball a lot, but we are not able to unbalance and hurt in proportion to the amount of time we have the ball. And we are not getting any luck at the moment either. We need to work,” the coach stated regarding River's current situation.
Coudet insisted on the need to quickly reverse the scenario and acknowledged that the team's present is far from what was expected: “We need to work, we are not used to this situation. We can talk about a lot of things, but the planning is taking longer than we all thought. I am clear about where I am and that River doesn’t give you time or margin. There is little time and margin. We need to win and win a lot.”
The coach also reflected on the difficulty he is facing at this moment in his career. “It’s one of the most difficult situations. Not just at River. On a personal level, it’s one of the times I’ve struggled the most to make a team play the way I want them to play,” he emphasized.
Amid this complicated present, Coudet made it clear that River Plate could still incorporate players to complete the squad: “I always say it’s about time and work. A group is being formed where good players are arriving, and surely River Plate will bring many more. We need 3 or 4 more footballers in different positions where we have many young players. This doesn’t happen very often.”
On the other hand, the coach reiterated the demands of being in charge of River and the need to achieve results immediately. “We can go into a lot of situations that complicate being in this situation, but it’s River and we have to win, and do it playing well. I am repetitive, and it’s not that I’m putting a gun to my head, but it’s the reality. River doesn’t give you margin or time. We need to start winning.”
