Elon Musk announced the creation of his own political party in the United States.

Technology magnate Elon Musk announced this Saturday the creation of a new political party in the United States, called the "America Party," thus intensifying his ongoing contest against President Donald Trump and facilitating the return of the Democratic Party to power.

The announcement was made through his social platform X, where Musk stated: "By a factor of 2 to 1, they want a new political party and they'll have it!" The statement was based on a poll published a day earlier in which 65.4% of his 1.2 million followers voted in favor of creating the new party, while 34.6% were against it.

Musk pointed out that both Democrats and Republicans have contributed to financially ruining the country, functioning as a one-party system instead of a real democracy. "Today the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom," he stated.

Although he did not offer concrete details about how he plans to formally organize the party, the initiative will face major logistical and legal challenges, since the rules for registering new political parties and accessing ballots vary by state.

The announcement comes amid a growing conflict between Musk and Trump, who were previously political allies. Musk had been a major donor to Trump's reelection campaign and leader of the government cost-cutting project known as DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) during the Trump administration.

However, recently Musk has strongly criticized Trump's legislative agenda for his second term, especially the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act", which he called a "disgusting abomination" and "full of unnecessary spending."

In response, Trump threatened to eliminate billions of dollars in federal subsidies intended for Musk's companies, such as Tesla and SpaceX, further intensifying the tension between the two.

Musk has also promised to use his fortune to support candidates who oppose the lawmakers who backed the bill, which could have significant implications for the 2026 midterm legislative elections. Some Republicans have already expressed concern that this dispute between Musk and Trump could weaken the party and put the majority in Congress at risk.

What proposals does Musk's party bring

The newly announced America Party of Elon Musk proposes a political agenda focused on significantly reducing public spending while supporting causes aligned with progressivism. Among its main measures is the cutting of budgets in traditionally untouchable areas such as defense and security.

In his eagerness to reduce public spending in these areas, the South African wants to modernize the United States armed forces through the incorporation of robotics and artificial intelligence.

In fiscal and environmental matters, the party proposes implementing high taxes on coal and oil, while eliminating current subsidies for renewable energies. This proposal would be complemented by the mandatory use of electric cars, with the aim of "combating climate change."

Within the area of immigration, Musk proposes an open borders policy, facilitating the entry of people without current restrictions and flooding the country with undocumented workers. He also proposes the immediate halt of deportations carried out by Trump.

In social matters, the America Party proposes implementing pro-natality policies to address demographic decline, encouraging motherhood and family growth. At the same time, it defends the right to legal abortion up to three months of gestation.

Meanwhile, in a controversial shift from traditional U.S. policy, the America Party also advocates for strict regulation of firearms, challenging the constitutional right to bear arms guaranteed by the Second Amendment.

Musk proposes that assault rifles, at a minimum, require a special permit, granted only after a rigorous evaluation of the applicant. He considers stricter control for this type of weapon essential, although he doesn't advocate a total ban, but rather regulation aligned with the Democratic Party's views.

These proposals mark a departure from the Republican agenda, while seeking to approach some precepts of the Democratic Party, and reflect Musk's disruptive and technocratic approach, seeking to attract voters disenchanted with the current two-party system.
