The seventh major update of the survival title introduced fully simulated water, new biomes, and advanced mechanics

Enshrouded, the cooperative survival RPG developed by Keen Games, recorded an extraordinary surge in its active player base following the launch of Wake of the Water, its most ambitious update to date. The peak of concurrent users jumped from around 12,000 players to over 34,000, consolidating the title's best performance since its debut in January 2024.
The major innovation behind this reactivation is the introduction of fully simulated water, one of the most requested features by the community. This change completely redefines exploration, construction, and biome dynamics.
Veilwater Basin: a new biome that transforms exploration

The update adds Veilwater Basin, a region located between Albaneve Summits and Blackmire. The area combines humid jungles, caverns, submerged temples, and deep lakes, significantly expanding the Embervale map. New water-related mechanics are integrated there, such as:
Creating channels or diverting rivers.
Building private ponds or underwater bases thanks to waterproof walls.
Transporting water in containers.
Managing oxygen through a new system that adds difficulty and strategy.
Additionally, Wake of the Water introduces the Drak, hostile reptiles capable of fighting underwater, raising the challenge for the most advanced players.
New mechanics: fishing, greatswords, and more progression options
The update also introduces fishing, allowing players to craft rods, baits, and access specific areas marked by whirlpools. There is even a new specialized NPC with whom players can trade within the biome.

Wake of the Water raises the maximum level to 45 and adds new weapons, including greatswords, new skills, armor, and a greater variety of arrows, spells, foods, and potions. These additions strengthen character progression and enrich tactical variety for underwater encounters with the Drak.
Construction also expands with hydraulic wheels, pipes, new types of doors, and crops that must be developed underwater, introducing new approaches to in-game agriculture.
Impact on the community and open debates
The international community celebrated the update by sharing submerged bases, fishing strategies, and new architectural designs. However, the general enthusiasm coexists with some criticism: many players question the inability to use weapons underwater, while the Drak can do so. This asymmetry may require future adjustments.
Despite these discussions, the prevailing opinion is that Wake of the Water repositions Enshrouded as one of the most innovative titles in the survival genre in 2024 and 2025.
