This Sunday, the people of Santa Fe went to the polls to vote in the constitutional conventions, as well as for councilors and mayors in cities across the province. Although Pullarismo prevailed at the general level, La Libertad Avanza achieved a series of key results.
One of the most paradigmatic cases is that of Eugenia Rolón, a 23-year-old activist who became famous for her debates on social media and her active participation in Javier Milei's 2023 campaign, alongside her boyfriend Iñaki Gutiérrez. They both led the campaign in the San Lorenzo department alone, and still achieved an encouraging result for the right in Santa Fe.
With 21% of the votes, she came in third against two historical figures of the city: the current Kirchnerist mayor Leonardo Raimundo, who came in second with 31% of the votes, and the provincial senator of Pullaro, Armando "Pipi" Traferri, with 33%. Both leaders have controlled San Lorenzo for 20 years, almost the age of the young Rolón who delivered a real upset.
The city of San Lorenzo is undoubtedly one of the most important in the province due to its industrial and port activity, its union movement, its commerce, and a budget envied by other cities of the same geographical and demographic size. It should be noted that Raimundo won in 2023 with 53% of the votes, so the bleeding of votes toward La Libertad Avanza is clear, a party that that year had not reached 2% of the votes in the municipal elections.
