The powerful explosion that occurred at the Spegazzini Industrial Park, in the Ezeiza district, prompted an immediate response from the national government. The head of the National Emergency Agency, Santiago Hardie, detailed how efforts are underway to contain the situation and warned about the main concern: the toxic risk, which is common in incidents of chemical origin.
Hardie confirmed that the national government is in contact with Buenos Aires Province and Civil Protection, and that the initial information points to an explosion linked to "a chemical plant, near a paint factory." He recalled that this type of facility requires strict protocols that must be approved and supervised by local authorities, since they are the ones who authorize and regulate industrial operations.
Meanwhile, as columns of smoke were visible in the area and firefighters were widely deployed, Hardie explained that the Gendarmerie is already involved, whose task is to clear and organize traffic to allow fire trucks to arrive quickly, a key step to prevent the incident from escalating. He also highlighted that the most sensitive resource of the federal system has been activated: the Federal Police's Special Risk Brigade, which specializes in chemical, toxic, and hazardous materials operations.
The official emphasized that, in an event of this nature, "the first thing that must be done is to exercise great caution regarding the toxic risk." He stated that the priority is to establish a safe perimeter, identify possible hazardous substances in the air or in the affected infrastructure, and apply the federal protocols designed for this type of emergency.
