The powerful explosion that occurred at the Spegazzini Industrial Park, in the Ezeiza district, prompted an immediate response from the national government. The head of the National Emergency Agency, Santiago Hardie, detailed how efforts are underway to contain the situation and warned about the main concern: the toxic risk, which is common in incidents of chemical origin.

Hardie confirmed that the national government is in contact with Buenos Aires Province and Civil Protection, and that the initial information points to an explosion linked to "a chemical plant, near a paint factory." He recalled that this type of facility requires strict protocols that must be approved and supervised by local authorities, since they are the ones who authorize and regulate industrial operations.

Meanwhile, as columns of smoke were visible in the area and firefighters were widely deployed, Hardie explained that the Gendarmerie is already involved, whose task is to clear and organize traffic to allow fire trucks to arrive quickly, a key step to prevent the incident from escalating. He also highlighted that the most sensitive resource of the federal system has been activated: the Federal Police's Special Risk Brigade, which specializes in chemical, toxic, and hazardous materials operations.

The official emphasized that, in an event of this nature, "the first thing that must be done is to exercise great caution regarding the toxic risk." He stated that the priority is to establish a safe perimeter, identify possible hazardous substances in the air or in the affected infrastructure, and apply the federal protocols designed for this type of emergency.

When asked about the existence of specific regulations, Hardie was clear: "All industries must have their protocols, and local authorities are the ones who approve and grant the corresponding authorizations." This way, he recalled that primary prevention falls to each plant and to the municipal and provincial agencies that assess risks, controls, and safety conditions.

However, the National Emergency Agency does have its own procedures to intervene when the magnitude of the event exceeds local capacity. "There are protocols for complex situations," he noted, and pointed out that for this reason the Special Risk Brigade was immediately deployed, whose teams are authorized to operate in chemical scenarios that require specific equipment, measurements, and training.

Meanwhile, as control efforts continue in Spegazzini, the national government keeps coordination with the Province to monitor the situation and prevent any toxic agent from spreading or posing a risk to residents. The investigation into the origin of the explosion will be in the hands of the relevant technical authorities once the situation is fully contained.
