Franco Colapinto found important support in Flavio Briatore after a Grand Prix of Italy that had a bittersweet taste. The Argentine managed to reach third place in Monza, but a mistake caused him to drop back to 16th place. From there, he built a comeback that allowed him to finish ninth and score points again, a performance that the Alpine advisor particularly valued.
"Both drivers did a fantastic job throughout the weekend. It was fantastic that Pierre had his moment to enjoy it with the team yesterday, and Franco had a brilliant race to recover and earn valuable points for the team," said the executive advisor of the French team.
The executive advisor also focused on the overall performance of the team during a race that left several positive signals. "This weekend has been positive for the team, with some highlights, such as yesterday's pole position, and good points scored for the team," he commented.
In the same vein, he emphasized Alpine's progress in the championship: "We have reduced the gap with Racing Bulls in the championship, and the performance we have brought to the car in the last races has placed us in a more competitive position to fight on track."
Beyond the expectations generated by qualifying, where Pierre Gasly had secured pole and Colapinto finished eighth (he started seventh due to a penalty for Andrea Kimi Antonelli), the advisor considered that the result was in line with the real possibilities of the car during a full race. "We were realistic about what we could achieve today, and ultimately, the result was a fair reflection of our pace over a full Grand Prix distance," he explained.
Thus, despite Colapinto's initial frustration over the mistake that affected his final result, his reaction ended up being one of the highlights for Alpine. The ninth place allowed him to salvage two points and close a weekend in which the team once again showed signs of growth.
When Colapinto races again
After a bittersweet Grand Prix of Italy, the native of Pilar will seek to recover emotionally next week at the Grand Prix of Madrid. Action at the debuting Madring will kick off next Friday, September 11 with the first free practices and will conclude with the main race on Sunday, September 13.
