Cadillac, the renowned American brand owned by General Motors, has confirmed its entry into Formula 1 starting from the 2026 season. This announcement has sparked speculation about who will be the drivers joining their team in their debut season and one of the names that has emerged in the conversations is that of the Argentine Franco Colapinto.
According to BeinSports, the team is considering various names to build their team, and the name of the 21-year-old Argentine driver is positioned as a potential long-term addition. "Colapinto could be part of a rookie-veteran duo, aligning with the modern F1 trend of mixing experience with young talent," stated the Qatari media outlet.
Although there are no official confirmations yet about Cadillac's driver line-up for 2026, the team director, Graeme Lowdon commented in an interview with Formula1.com that they are looking for drivers based on merit and not nationalities: "We are going to hire drivers based on their merits. But we see no reason why we won't have American drivers in due time." In addition, he clarified that there would be no date or deadline to announce their team: "We are not going to set any deadline for the driver announcement or anything like that, but there will surely be one in due time."
