The Argentine driver started the Sprint from 13th place but quickly managed to advance one position. In the first few meters, Colapinto overtook Yuki Tsunoda and positioned himself 12th.
From there, the Alpine driver managed to maintain his position until the checkered flag. Throughout the 24 laps, he did not change his position and completed a race without major incidents, although the limited performance of the A526 was once again exposed.
After the race, Colapinto acknowledged that the result was once again conditioned by the difficulties that the car carries.
“Tough, like the last races. It was a bit difficult for us. But on the other hand, the overtaking and being ahead of a Racing Bull and an Audi was positive, but the same problems as always with this car,” he expressed.
The main satisfaction for the Argentine was in the maneuver over Tsunoda, which allowed him to gain a position from the start and stay ahead of a rival who, initially, had a competitive car.
Gasly scored points with Alpine's new upgrades
While Colapinto competed with the previous version of the A526, Pierre Gasly used the new upgrade package that Alpine brought to Zandvoort.
The Frenchman finished eighth in the Sprint and managed to score the last available point. For the team, the result represents a first positive sign regarding the performance of the technical update.
Colapinto also highlighted this aspect after the race: “Fortunately, the improvement (in Gasly's car) is working well, that's the most positive thing of the weekend.”
Alpine had developed an upgrade to try to improve the performance of the A526 and, although it was initially scheduled for the Italian Grand Prix, the production times allowed a unit to be available earlier in the Netherlands.
When will Colapinto receive the upgrades?
For now, Colapinto will have to wait to receive the new technical package from Alpine. The team's plan is for the Argentine to use it at the next Formula 1 event, the Italian Grand Prix in Monza.
