Gareca and the day he saw 'a person like a dog': his superstitions and a harsh joke
In a recent interview, El Tigre recalled unusual experiences during his time as a footballer
Ricardo Gareca is a calm person, measured in his speech and respected for his career as a footballer and coach. However, in a recent interview with SoloConVos TV, "El Tigre" surprised everyone by recounting a series of anecdotes that combine the supernatural, rituals, and even a bad joke from his time as a player.
Las anécdotas de Gareca
"We saw a person, he was coming like a dog, on all fours," he said in a serious tone as he recalled an unusual experience with other prominent figures in Argentine football. According to his account, everything happened when Alfio "Coco" Basile took them to a meeting with shamans to perform an energy cleansing.

"Once he took Pato Fillol, Funes, and me... he took us to a place for that, you know, those shamans who cleanse you," Gareca recounted. The scene they witnessed as soon as they arrived left them stunned: "As soon as we entered, we saw a person, he was coming like a dog, on all fours. As soon as we walked in, we saw him coming toward us, howling or something."
The coach explained that after that episode, the shamans would perform a ritual on them and then talk as if nothing had happened: "They do a ritual on you and then they start talking to you normally, as if nothing happened."
Beyond these rituals, Gareca also acknowledged his superstitious side: "I was quite superstitious, you know, in that regard." He even recalled a particular situation he experienced during his time at América de Cali: "Once they played a nasty prank on me with a garment I used to wear under my jersey."

The garment had symbolic value for him, because it coincided with good personal moments and for the team: "I always wore it. And they burned it, I managed to take it out. These are pranks that go too far and are directly related to what you believe, you know, and things were going well for me and for the team too."
Despite the damage, he continued using it as best he could: "To the point that I kept wearing it, you know. It had a couple of holes, but it still worked."
