After several days marked by concern and uncertainty, Vélez received encouraging news about the condition of Emanuel Mammana. The defender, who suffered a serious injury during the draw against Newell's on matchday 9 of the Clausura Tournament, was discharged this Wednesday and will continue his recovery at home.
The club from Liniers reported that the player showed favorable progress and detailed that the chest tube was removed on Tuesday. "Emanuel Mammana received medical clearance on Wednesday morning. The chest tube was removed on Tuesday after showing favorable progress, both clinically and in imaging", the institution communicated.
From now on, the former River will need to continue with medical check-ups and sports rest. Vélez also clarified that the player does not yet have a set date to return to training, so his return to the field will depend on how his rehabilitation progresses.
The injury occurred at the beginning of the second half of the match held at the Coloso Marcelo Bielsa. The goalkeeper Tomás Marchiori went to contest an aerial ball and, accidentally, impacted one of his knees on the back of his teammate. Mammana immediately fell to the ground and had to be replaced.
The initial diagnosis indicated a trauma to the right hemithorax that caused the fracture of multiple ribs and a pneumothorax. One of the injuries even led to the perforation of the lung, requiring the defender to undergo surgery in Rosario.
After being hospitalized and spending a couple of nights in intensive care for precaution, Mammana was transferred to Buenos Aires to continue his recovery. There, his progress was favorable until he finally received medical clearance.
Marchiori's message to Mammana
In parallel, the defender received a supportive message from Marchiori, the involuntary protagonist of the accident. The goalkeeper wrote on Instagram: "Dear friend, I feel a sense of anger for what you are going through but at the same time I am happy that you are progressing in the best way".
He then added: "The truth is that in these moments, sports take a back seat knowing that a person's health is at stake and in this case, that of a friend. I hope we can enjoy you back on the field soon. Let's go with that recovery, friend, we are all with you".
For his part, Mammana responded calmly and sought to downplay the episode. "Thank you for your words, friend. No anger because, as I said, these are situations that can happen in a match and we live with that, I love you, friend. Now it's time to push through and I assure you that I will come back stronger", he replied.
