Google is preparing to make a move to fully enter the computer market, a field dominated by Windows for decades. A job posting published on LinkedIn confirmed that the company is working on Aluminium OS, an operating system based on Android that aims to compete directly with Windows 11.
The project marks a shift in Google's strategy: leaving behind the limited Chrome OS model to bet on a complete platform.

A new operating system
According to the job posting, Google is seeking a "Senior Product Manager" in Taiwan specialized in Android, tablets, and laptops. The description explicitly mentions Aluminium OS, a name that is still internal and could change at launch.
What is confirmed is the intention. Google wants a new desktop system powered by artificial intelligence, not just a simple Chrome OS with Gemini added. Aluminium OS is designed from scratch as a "premium" platform.
The definitive replacement for Chrome OS?
Google has anticipated that Chrome OS will not disappear immediately. Both systems will coexist for a while, since Chrome OS will continue to occupy the budget laptop segment, especially in the educational field.
