Hours after the dramatic episode he starred in during the friendly match between Denmark and Ukraine, Christian Eriksen broke the silence to convey calm and clarified that the situation was not as serious as the cardiac arrest he suffered in Euro 2021.
In yesterday's match, the Danish midfielder collapsed during the second half after placing his hand on his chest. The incident forced the cancellation of the match and generated immediate concern in the football world due to his cardiac history. After receiving immediate medical attention, he quickly regained consciousness and was taken to a hospital for further tests.
After the episode, the Wolfsburg player used his social media to inform that he is now at home and recovering well. "I want to let everyone know that I am fine and that I am at home with my family", Eriksen expressed at the beginning of his statement.
"As you can probably imagine, receiving a shock from my ICD has had a big impact on both me and my family, but I want to reassure everyone by saying that this was a different situation than what happened in 2021. I feel good and my recovery has already begun", he noted.
The statement from Eriksen
In his message, Eriksen also thanked the work of the doctors who intervened during the emergency and the specialists who have been with him since he suffered the cardiac arrest in the Euro. "I am incredibly grateful to the doctors who have taken care of me and my heart over the years. Thanks to their expertise, my ICD did exactly what it was designed to do: protect me when I needed it", he emphasized.
Finally, the midfielder assured that he will now prioritize his recovery and time with his loved ones. "For now, my focus is on recovering, spending time with my family, going on vacation, and playing football with my children", he concluded.
Meanwhile, the Danish Federation continues to await the results of the tests conducted to determine precisely what caused the decompensation. Although the scare was significant and inevitably revived memories of 2021, the initial signs are encouraging, and the player himself confirmed that his health status is stable.
The encouraging announcement from his doctor
Shortly before Eriksen's statement, the doctor for the Danish national team, Morten Boesen, had provided some details about the player's condition. "I spoke with Christian this morning and he is doing well. He is with his family and in good spirits. He is expected to be discharged soon and return home. We are taking good care of the players and staff, and we maintain constant contact with them", read the official statement.
