Dreambeans is the new experimental tool from Google that uses artificial intelligence to transform personal information into illustrated stories and personalized recommendations. The app is already available for some users in the United States on Android and iPhone.

The project was developed by Google Labs and aims to provide daily suggestions based on data obtained from services like Gmail, Google Calendar, Photos, YouTube, and Search History, always with prior user consent.

What is Dreambeans and how does Google's new AI work

Dreambeans analyzes information connected to various Google applications to generate a limited selection of personalized stories each day.

These stories may include recommendations for places to visit, activities to do, topics to explore, upcoming events, or content related to the user's interests.

As Google explained, the tool uses a system called Personal Intelligence, which cross-references information from different platforms to offer content tailored to each individual.

What type of recommendations can Dreambeans generate

The suggestions created by the artificial intelligence may vary based on the activity recorded in the Google account.

  • Recommendations for nearby cafes or places.

  • Information related to upcoming trips.

  • Advice linked to events noted in Google Calendar.

  • Stories based on interests detected on YouTube or recent searches.

  • Articles and content selected according to browsing habits.

For example, if a user records the arrival of a pet in their calendar, Dreambeans may offer content related to dog care or adapting to a new routine.

Google's bet to combat excessive content consumption

One of the goals of Dreambeans is to reduce the time people spend browsing aimlessly on social media or apps.

For this reason, the platform limits the number of stories available each day. On average, users receive between 10 and 14 daily recommendations.

The idea is to provide quick and personalized inspiration so users can then leave the app and continue with activities off-screen.

What Google says about the privacy of Dreambeans

Google assured that access to the generated stories is restricted solely to the user. Additionally, individuals can choose which services they want to connect with the app and delete their data whenever they deem necessary.

The company maintains that the use of personal information requires prior consent and that privacy controls are a central part of the tool's functionality.

Why Google's new AI is called Dreambeans

The project leader explained that the name combines two concepts related to the app's functionality.

The word "Dream" refers to the work the system does overnight, processing information from the connected applications while the user sleeps.

On the other hand, "Beans" alludes to coffee and the idea of starting the day with a concentrated dose of inspiration, similar to a freshly brewed cup.

Who can currently use Dreambeans

At the moment, Dreambeans is only available to certain subscribers of Google AI Ultra in the United States.

However, Google has enabled a waiting list for users who have a personal Google account and want to try the tool in the future.
