'Practice': the new Google Translate feature that competes with Duolingo
Google Translate launches 'Practice,' the feature aiming to compete with Duolingo in language learning
Google Translate is no longer just a translator; it is transforming into a language learning app. With the new "Practice" feature, the company aims to compete directly with platforms like Duolingo.
The tool includes personalized exercises, thematic scenarios, and daily activities. For now, it is in the beta phase, but it already promises to revolutionize how millions learn languages from their phones.

How the new Google Translate tool works
"Practice" appears after performing a translation. A graduation cap icon enables access to interactive lessons, organized by topics such as greetings, food, or travel. Users can also create their own scenarios.
The system evaluates progress with practice rounds and immediate feedback, encouraging daily consistency. It is inspired by Duolingo's logic: short, dynamic sessions and spaced repetition to improve memory.
A free model, for now
On its welcome screen, the feature clarifies that it is in a "trial period with early and unlimited access." This opens the door for it to be added to a possible subscription model in the future. For now, it is free for those who access the beta.

The global rollout of "Practice"
Leaked screenshots and user reports in Russia suggest that the official launch could be near. For now, only a small group can try it within the initial tests.
More Google Translate features
In addition to this new feature, Google Translate keeps its classic functions: text, audio, and image translation, language downloads for offline use, and real-time conversation translation.

The interface remains simple, but now it is combined with a more educational profile. This way, Google is entering a field that, until now, has been dominated by other language apps.
