Google  updated its smart voice assistant with new features that improve its integration with the rest of the app ecosystem. Gemini Live now allows real-time interaction with Maps, Calendar, Keep, and Tasks without the need to type or touch the screen.

In addition, a highly anticipated tool was added: live captions for every voice interaction. These features aim to make using the assistant more seamless, practical, and natural in daily life.

What can you do now with Gemini Live?

With the new update, Gemini Live can access real-time data from integrated apps. This includes:

  • Add tasks in Google Tasks.
  • Take quick notes or retrieve those already saved in Google Keep.
  • Check your schedule in Google Calendar or create new events.
  • Access your location in Google Maps and receive suggestions for nearby places.

All of this without having to use the keyboard or press any button. The assistant understands commands and responds naturally while you speak.

Live captions

Another notable new feature is the addition of real-time automatic captions. This feature has already started rolling out with version 16.23 of the Google app for Android and iOS.

If the option doesn't appear, simply close and reopen the Google app. When you restart it, a button appears in the upper right corner to enable captions.

Can Gemini read messages?

Since July 7, Gemini has also been able to read messages from other apps such as WhatsApp. However, Google clarified that if you have the Gemini Apps Activity option disabled, those chats will not be used to train its artificial intelligence.

That is, the privacy of messages is protected if you do not enable full synchronization with third-party apps.

When will these features be available to all users?

The rollout is being carried out progressively. Some users can already use Gemini Live with these apps, while others will have to wait a few more days.

Everything indicates that Google will release them globally in the coming weeks, both on Android and iOS.
