The GOTY effect that sent sales soaring
According to a report by Alinea Insight, sales of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 multiplied after its overwhelming run at The Game Awards 2025. The game not only won the top prize, but it also took home nine other awards.
With these numbers, the title has already surpassed six million units sold worldwide since its release.
Steam leads by a wide margin
Of the total 200,000 copies sold between December 12 and 15, 76% corresponds to Steam. In second place is PlayStation 5 with 21%, while Xbox Series X|S represents just 3%.
El efecto GOTY que disparó las ventas
Although the game is also available on Epic Games Store and GOG, Alinea's report doesn't include figures from those platforms.
A sales pace not seen since launch
After the ceremony hosted by Geoff Keighley, the RPG recorded an average of 69,000 copies sold per day. The peak came on the Saturday following the event, with about 92,000 units.
The title, released on April 24, had not shown similar figures since May, when positive reviews began to boost its popularity.
Game Pass and its impact on Xbox
The report also again highlights the effect of Xbox Game Pass. Of the 200,000 copies sold after the GOTY, fewer than 10,000 correspond to purchases on Xbox.
However, more than 52,000 subscribers to the service tried the game starting on December 12.

Not all winners achieve this effect
Alinea Analytics clarifies that winning or being nominated for GOTY doesn't always guarantee such a sharp jump in sales. Cases like Baldur's Gate 3, Elden Ring and now Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 are exceptions.
Most of the titles awarded at The Game Awards 2025 recorded only moderate increases after the event.
