A major gang that stole motorcycles in the capital and the province was taken down.

With 33 people arrested and 140 robberies solved, the justice system delivers a decisive blow to organized crime

The City Police dismantled a criminal organization dedicated to the systematic theft of motorcycles in the Federal Capital and the south of the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area. After a four-month investigation, 33 people were arrested, accused of being part of a criminal association responsible for at least 140 armed robberies.

The police operation included 32 simultaneous raids in different neighborhoods of Buenos Aires, as well as in the municipalities of Lanús and Lomas de Zamora, and involved 700 officers from various divisions, including Forensic Police and Special Forces, supported by patrol cars and helicopters.

The investigation that led to the dismantling of this gang began on February 20, when a police checkpoint stopped an 18-year-old who was fleeing with a motorcycle stolen at gunpoint. The analysis of the detainee's cell phone made it possible to identify the other members of the organization and link them to the same criminal network.

The stolen motorcycles were transported to the south of the Metropolitan Area, where they were sold on the black market at ridiculously low prices or dismantled for the sale of auto parts, often on demand.

During the raids, 20 motorcycles, five automobiles—including pickup trucks and compact cars—were seized, along with 53 cell phones, firearms of various calibers, ammunition, and a large quantity of auto parts and accessories. Among the seized items, vehicle keys, electronic devices, cash, and documentation were also found. In one of the operations, the police had to face a shootout to enter a residence and arrest the suspects.

The operation was coordinated in real time from the Higher Institute of Public Security(ISSP), under the supervision of the highest security authorities of the City and the National Criminal and Correctional Court No. 5, which granted the necessary extension of jurisdiction to intervene in the province.

The sustained increase in this type of crime in recent years highlights the urgency of reviewing and strengthening prevention, control, and sanction strategies, as well as cooperation between jurisdictions, to guarantee the safety of citizens and restore the rule of law.
