The United States government publicly expressed its support for Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz amid the serious wave of protests, blockades, and clashes affecting the country for more than two weeks. The Donald Trump administration also condemned what it considers “actions aimed at destabilizing” the democratically elected government of Bolivia.
The statement was made by the Office of Western Hemisphere Affairs of the State Department through a statement released on social media. Washington stated that the disturbances and roadblocks have created a “humanitarian crisis” due to shortages of food, fuel, and medicine in various Bolivian regions.
“We condemn all actions aimed at destabilizing the democratically elected government of Rodrigo Paz Pereira,” the U.S. statement noted. Additionally, the White House expressed its support for Bolivian authorities “to restore order in favor of peace, security, and stability for the Bolivian people.”

Washington's support comes at one of the most delicate moments for Paz's government since he took office just six months ago. Bolivia is experiencing an escalation of social conflicts, with simultaneous blockades in various regions of the country, union protests, and mobilizations driven by sectors aligned with former President Evo Morales seeking to stage a coup.
