It was an unjustified benefit that was funded by taxpayers' money

The Government of Javier Milei, through presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni, announced the elimination of the non-working day corresponding to Public Employee Day, which is celebrated every June 27.

The initiative seeks to equalize conditions between workers in the public sector and those in the private sector, eliminating an unjustified benefit that is not available to the majority of private employees.

"The State is not a space to grant special benefits or sabbatical days that have no justification," stated the presidential spokesperson during his regular press conference. With this measure, the Executive aims to strengthen the concept of responsibility and efficiency in public service, in line with productivity levels in the rest of the labor market.

Adorni also emphasized that "that day off is financed by the contribution of every taxpayer in the country." Additionally, the legislator elected by the City of Buenos Aires reaffirmed his position: "Working in the State is a service to attend to the citizen who strives every day to put food on the table for their family and who, directly or indirectly, is responsible for the present and future of the country," added Adorni.

In this context, he concluded: "The Argentina that worshiped statism and the public sector to the detriment of the private sector is a thing of the past."

With this decision, Milei's Government moves forward with its reform agenda aimed at strengthening private sector participation and reducing the size of the State. The date known as Public Employee Day, which usually meant a day off for national administration employees, will no longer be recognized as a non-working day.
