The Chilean government led by José Antonio Kast intensified its offensive against drug trafficking after the Police Investigations and Carabineros reported the seizure of more than 45 tons of drugs so far this year. The authorities presented this data as evidence of the tightening of security policies promoted by the current administration in response to the advance of organized crime in the country.
According to official reports, among the substances seized are cocaine, marijuana, base paste, and synthetic drugs detected in various operations carried out at borders, ports, and large urban centers. The Chilean Executive maintains that drug trafficking had expanded significantly in recent years and that a change in strategy was necessary to regain territorial control and strengthen public security.

Since taking office, Kast has made the fight against drug trafficking, illegal immigration, and organized crime one of the central pillars of his government. The Chilean administration has promoted increased border controls, more police operations, and strengthened cooperation with international security agencies.
The government also claims that part of the growth of drug trafficking in Chile has been linked to the entry of foreign criminal organizations and the weakness of security policies implemented in previous years. Therefore, Kast promised to advance with tougher laws against drug gangs and strengthen police presence in areas considered critical.
The figures released by the authorities show one of the largest volumes of drugs seized recently recorded in Chile. Security officials state that this reflects both increased activity by criminal organizations and an enhancement in the operational capacity of the State to detect and combat them.

In parallel, the Chilean government reinforced controls at border crossings in the north of the country, considered key points for the entry of drugs from regional criminal organizations. Additionally, patrols and joint operations between police and military forces were increased in various strategic areas.
The Executive asserts that the priority is to regain security and prevent Chile from following the path of other Latin American countries affected by the advance of drug trafficking and criminal gangs. From Kast's circle, it is emphasized that the offensive against organized crime will continue to intensify in the coming months as part of the so-called “National Reconstruction Plan” promoted by the government.
