Preliminary investigations link the events to self-proclaimed Mapuche groups

Amid the emergency caused by the fires affecting different areas of the province of Chubut, the national government reported that deliberate and intentional acts in the origin of several fire outbreaks are under investigation. According to a statement released by the Ministry of Security, the preliminary evidence collected by the authorities points to the possible involvement of self-proclaimed Mapuche terrorist groups.
According to the official communication, these actions would fall within a form of environmental terrorism, a practice that seeks to cause material, social, and environmental damage through the use of fire as a tool of pressure and destabilization. The investigations are ongoing and are being carried out in coordination with federal forces and specialized agencies, in a context of maximum alert due to the advance of the fire and adverse weather conditions.

The National Ministry of Security stated that the State will act with zero tolerance toward this type of crime. “The National Ministry of Security will identify, arrest, and bring those responsible to justice,” officials stated through its official channels. The objective is to protect the population, safeguard property, and preserve the affected ecosystems.
In the face of the fires in the south of the country, the national government continues to provide assistance to the affected provinces. A total of 295 brigade members have already been deployed: 232 from the Nation —128 belonging to National Parks and 104 from the Federal Emergency Agency— and another 63 sent by the province of Córdoba. The operation also includes 15 aerial assets, 4x4 fire trucks, logistical support from the Armed Forces, medical assistance, and the shipment of humanitarian aid, in coordination with provinces, municipalities, and volunteer firefighters.
Meanwhile, brigade members and emergency personnel continue working in the field to contain the flames, assist affected communities, and prevent new outbreaks. The tasks are made more complex by the wind and the dryness of the terrain, factors that accelerate the spread of the fire and increase the risk to homes and infrastructure.

The statement also emphasized that the background of these groups includes previous attacks on private property and productive facilities, which reinforces the hypothesis of criminal intent behind the fires. In this context, the national government reaffirmed its decision to move forward with all available legal tools to restore order and guarantee security in the region.
The authorities asked the population to cooperate with relevant information and to comply with safety instructions, while the expert analyses are intensified to determine specific responsibilities. The immediate priority is to control the fire; the next will be for those responsible to face the corresponding criminal consequences.
