Rockstar Games and Netflix finally presented an “extended look” at Grand Theft Auto VI that confirms what many expected: the game retains the spirit of the saga but elevates everything to another visual level. The 26-minute video, captured on PS5, showcases exploration, chases, shootouts, and cinematic scenes with impressive detail in densely populated environments.

One of the keys seems to be the dynamic between the protagonists Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. In one sequence, Duval is seen hanging out of the window of a car driven by Caminos while shooting at the police. Later, the control shifts and she drives while he and another character continue firing. The game allows players to switch characters at any time or have one accompany the other, according to reports from media that viewed the material.

There are also missions where the two separate. In a building, Duval faces enemies from cover while Caminos stealthily moves through another floor. At one point, she struggles with an adversary and button prompts appear for her to break free. The preview includes edited scenes and some moments of pure gameplay, such as the weapon menu, boat rides, basketball, diving, circuit racing, and parachute jumps.

The size of the world is another strong point. Rockstar told the New York Times that the map is three times larger than the playable area of Red Dead Redemption 2. Rob Nelson, co-director of Rockstar North, commented that a playthrough in February took them 80 hours between the main story and optional content.

Returning mechanics and new details

Snapmatic, the Instagram version of the saga, returns, although players will not be able to post content “because Jason and Lucia are fugitives and do not want to leave a digital footprint,” according to IGN. The six-star wanted level system is also back, and the police can remember the player's appearance, which forces players to change clothes to throw them off.

Stealing a parked car will not be as simple as before. More expensive vehicles are harder to unlock, and sometimes special equipment is needed. In contrast, older models seem more accessible for escaping a tight spot. Duval and Caminos do not have to be a romantic couple: that is left to the player's discretion, and there is even a mechanic for holding hands.

The preview comes after several leaks that Rockstar described as “heartbreaking.” The full material is available on the studio's YouTube channel and on the official game site. Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19 at an initial price of $79.99 and will not have a physical disc version.

Everything indicates that Rockstar has made a strong bet on visual fidelity and gameplay freedom, maintaining the identity markers of the franchise but with a technical leap that is noticeable in every corner shown.
