Independiente Case: Several raids and arrests were ordered for eight fans
Judge Arabito requested the arrest warrants for the Rojo supporters who have been identified so far for the incidents with U de Chile
The judiciary is making progress in the investigation into the violent incidents that occurred at the Libertadores de América stadium during the match between Independiente and Universidad de Chile for the Copa Sudamericana. Judge José Luis Arabito, in charge of the Guarantee Court No. 3 of Avellaneda, ordered on Wednesday a series of raids and arrest warrantsfor the eight most heavily implicated defendants, who are being investigated for attempted homicide against Chilean supporters.
Prosecutor Mariano Zitto, who had requested the measure, emphasized that there are 19 open cases regarding the events, although four are the most significant: one for serious injuries, two for attempted homicide and robbery in a populated areaand as a group, and another for attempted homicide, all aggravated by having occurred during a sporting event.

In radio statements, Zitto was blunt: "The stadium's internal security, managed by a private company hired by the club, proved insufficient to contain the disturbances. The private security forces couldn't do anything to prevent such chaos and no effective coordination with the Buenos Aires Police was observed."
The prosecutor described the magnitude of the violence: "The barrage of images we received is countless. There were families, naked people in the stands, beatings without restraint, or even fans kneeling and being forced to apologize."

He also pointed out that the incidents began even before the match: "Already when people from Chile entered, two or three hours earlier, this situation started to escalate, the breaking of cameras... This could have been avoided and the prior violence should already have alerted the organizers."
Meanwhile, Independiente submitted a statement to CONMEBOL, which opened a file to determine responsibilities and is considering sanctions that are expected to be severe, both in sporting and institutional terms.
