Córdoba: they wanted to set a field on fire and were caught red-handed

Days after Córdoba firefighters fought a forest fire in Pampa de Achala, two young men were caught in the act when they attempted to start a fire in a rural area. The incident took place in Cerro Pelado, an area located in Calamuchita, in the central-western part of the province.

The young men, who are 24 and 26 years old, were captured by security cameras, which alerted police officers, who apprehended them.

The General Directorate of Rural Patrol reported the incident and prevented the fire from starting during a season prone to forest fires due to drought and wind.

According to the police report, the operation resulted in the seizure of the vehicle, a 110 cc motorcycle they were using, and the object with which they would have started the fire, a lighter.

Both the individuals and the seized items were transported and placed at the disposal of the justice system.

Fines for forest fires in Córdoba

Fines and penalties for those who start forest fires range from 3 to 20 years in prison.

"Those who cause forest fires, whether intentionally or through negligence, will face severe financial penalties and prison sentences," stated the Directorate. Meanwhile, the force emphasized the importance of citizen cooperation, which made it possible to act in time in a high-risk area.

Firefighters fought a rural fire in Córdoba

Last Friday, Córdoba firefighters fought a fire in Pampa de Achala, a rural area in the Santa María department, a few kilometers (a few miles) from the capital of Córdoba.

Due to this, Córdoba police reported that provincial route S-271 was completely closed at the Gaucho Urbano roundabout, in the Potrerillos area.

The Provincial Secretariat for Climate Risk Management, Disaster, and Civil Protection reported that the fire occurred between San Clemente and Potrero de Garay, west of Los Molinos dam.
