Despite the administrative elimination from the Copa Sudamericana over a month ago, Independiente is not giving up and has returned to pursue the matter in the offices. This Tuesday, the club's legal representatives held a hearing before CONMEBOL to request a review of the ruling that excluded it from the international competition and imposed a fine of 250,000 dollars, in addition to seven matches without home fans and seven without visiting fans.

The Rojo delegation, led by attorneys Maximiliano Walker and Ariel Reck, requested a drastic reduction of the penalties. The proposal seeks for the sanctions to be adjusted to a "more reasonable" scale, with one match without home fans and three without visiting fans, relying on precedents of similar cases with lighter punishments.

The claim was presented before three members of the Appeals Committee, who must now issue a decision in the coming days. However, the process could continue: if a negative response is received, Independiente plans to appeal to CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport).

Meanwhile, Universidad de Chile was also sanctioned with a fine of 270,000 dollars and the obligation to participate in campaigns against racism, discrimination, and violence.

The outcome of the case keeps the red world on edge, as it awaits a ruling that could considerably reduce the sanctions imposed after the incidents that occurred at the Libertadores de América stadium.
