Infantino confirmed that the World Cup final will have a halftime show

The FIFA president announced this change that aims to revolutionize the traditional tournament format.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced that the 2026 World Cup final will feature, for the first time in the tournament's history, a halftime show in the style of the Super Bowl. This event will take place only during the third-place match and the final.

The announcement occurred during the FIFA Commercial Partners and Media Convention in Dallas, where central topics were discussed for organizing a completely atypical World Cup, with 48 teams and hosted in three different countries, Mexico, United States, and Canada.

At this convention, Infantino stated: "I can confirm the first halftime show at a FIFA World Cup final in New York, New Jersey, in partnership with Global Citizen. This will be a historic moment for the FIFA World Cup and a show worthy of the world's biggest sporting event".

If they want to replicate the performances just as they are in the Super Bowl, the halftime should last 30 minutes, double the usual 15-minute regulation. The 2024 Copa América final had Shakira's show that lasted 20 minutes, so it wouldn't be surprising if FIFA opts for a similar alternative to avoid extending halftime too much.

Meanwhile, the renowned British band Coldplay was selected to headline this show. Chris Martin and Phil Harvey, members of the band, are collaborating with FIFA and Global Citizen to finalize the definitive list of artists who will participate in the show.

In addition to the stadium show, FIFA also plans to take over Times Square in New York during the tournament's final weekend, organizing events and musical performances both during the third-place match and the final. "They will be two unbelievable matches, with some of the best players in the world, and what better way to celebrate them than in the historic Times Square of New York City", argued Infantino.
