The devaluation of Argentine soccer continues. Argentine Football Association (AFA), led by the disgraceful Claudio "Chiqui" Tapia, officially confirmed the creation of the Recopa de Campeones, an unprecedented competition that will be played in a triangular format and will bring together three teams that have been crowned in different official competitions.
The announcement was made during the Professional League meeting held this Tuesday, where the directors finished defining the guidelines of the tournament, which will begin to be played as of 2027. The participants will be the champions of the 2026 Copa Argentina, the 2026 Supercopa Argentina, and the 2026 Supercopa Internacional, clarifying that the finals played this year will not be taken into account.
AFA also specified the replacement criteria in case of overlapping champions. If the winner of the Supercopa Argentina coincides with the champion of the Copa Argentina, the spot will go to the runner-up of the Supercopa Argentina. The same logic will apply to the Supercopa Internacional and, if repetitions persist, the last place will go to the runner-up of the 2026 Copa Argentina.
