Inter Miami awaits Lionel Messi's contract renewal and dreams of his retirement at the club

The Argentine's contract ends in December, and Jorge Mas, one of the club's owners, expressed his desire for number 10 to inaugurate the new stadium and retire there

Time keeps ticking and the contract renewal for  Lionel Messiwith Inter Miami, which expires on December 31, still hasn't been finalized. This uncertainty is causing concern among both the club's fans and its management, who hope to renew his contract.

In this context, Jorge Más, one of the owners of the institution led by Javier Mascherano, addressed the issue again. The 62-year-old businessman shared details about the negotiations and expressed his desire for the Argentine star to retire wearing Inter Miami's jersey.

"I previously said that my wish, my dream, would be for number 10 to inaugurate our new stadium in March. This is a decision that falls to Messi. We want him to finish his career here. I said a few months ago that we should have news about this in the summer, but hopefully it will be as soon as possible," he said in an interview with ESPN.

Más was confident: "I'm optimistic because we've done everything possible to make Leo feel at home, comfortable. I've always said that he's a competitive animal, that he wants to win. I hope we can lift many trophies together here at Inter Miami in the coming years. Here, we only hope to be able to give the fans the good news about Messi."

In the same vein, he added: "We're a bit selfish: we'd like to win more trophies and, obviously, with Messi here. He, from day one, has said that he wants to compete and win. We want to make sure we have the best squad to compete at the highest level. We'd have to ask Leo, but I think he knows we're doing everything possible."

He then highlighted the club's effort to maintain a competitive project: "There's no tool that the league provides that we haven't used to improve this squad. We signed young players and found new signings. For next year, the idea is to find another star, because we have space in the squad. Meanwhile, we're not missing much. Soon we'll know Messi's decision and hopefully we'll continue together for many more years."

Amid the lack of definitions, rumors began to circulate about a possible change of direction in the Rosario native's career, who is approaching 38 years old. However, for now, the strongest option remains his continuity at Inter Miami.
