Javier Milei and Patricia Bullrich announce the creation of the Argentine FBI
The government seeks to modernize the Federal Police with a model inspired by the FBI and the Brazilian police
This Tuesday at 5:00 p.m., President Javier Milei and Security Minister Patricia Bullrich will lead a press conference at the headquarters of the Mounted Police Corps in Palermo. The official announcement will be the creation of a Federal Investigations Department (DFI) within the Argentine Federal Police (PFA), with the goal of more effectively addressing complex crimes.
The measure, which will be made official through a publication in the Official Gazette, is part of a deep restructuring of the federal police force. According to official sources, the initiative is based on a mixed model that takes the U.S. FBI and Brazil's Federal Police as references.

Reconfiguration of functions
The project establishes the modification of the PFA's Organic Law (No. 21,965). With the new framework, the force will have the mission to "prevent, detect, and investigate federal and complex crimes, and collaborate in the dismantling of criminal organizations."
In the words of the Government, the aim is for a more modern, professionalized, and strategic PFA, capable of confronting criminal phenomena such as drug trafficking, human trafficking, and organized crime.

Police recruitment and career
Another reform aims to transform the recruitment system for the force. The Casa Rosada plans to implement a system that allows the incorporation of already graduated university students, with specific training for investigative tasks.
Meanwhile, the new design contemplates the possibility of promotion for non-commissioned officers with experience and training, without the need to go through the traditional process to reach the officer rank. This is a commitment to internal merit and the professionalization of the force's middle ranks.

Evaluation and budget
The restructuring will also include a new system for monitoring and evaluating the performance of agents, with support from objective data and information. This framework will allow for more precise measurement of staff performance and efficiency.
On the budgetary front, the Government is considering declaring the PFA in a state of emergency for two years, which would enable direct contracting mechanisms as provided for in Decree 1023/01. This measure would accelerate acquisitions and logistical reforms necessary for the transformation of the institution.
