On a busy day on Thursday, President Javier Milei welcomed influential technology entrepreneur Peter Thiel to the Casa Rosada, in what represents a new step by the Government towards consolidating ties with central actors of global economic power.
The co-founder of PayPal, who has been in the country for a week and plans to extend his stay for several more weeks, develops a reserved schedule that includes meetings with officials, institutional contacts and participation in cultural activities. As it turned out, Peter Thiel had already held meetings with key leaders of the ruling party. Last Monday, he met with presidential advisor Santiago Caputo, in an exchange where they addressed issues related to the international scene, technological dynamics and the positioning of Argentina in the new global context

The meeting at Casa Rosada was also attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship, Pablo Quirno; the official translator Walter Keer; and a US delegation composed of Matt Danzeisen, former vice-president of BlackRock, and the Argentinian Matías Van Thienen, a partner of the company specializing in growing and international companies.
Since his arrival, Thiel combined his political agenda with cultural activities, such as his attendance at the Superclasico between River Plate and Boca Juniors at the Monumental Stadium. This gesture not only reflects economic interest, but also an immersion in Argentinian social life

A source with direct access to the presidential office revealed that the businessman observes “the Milei phenomenon” carefully and believes that Argentina “can be a place of refuge in the face of the possibility of a world in crisis”. This definition reinforces the official narrative of a country that, after years of uncertainty, is beginning to regain predictability and internationalappeal

The current meeting is not the first between the two. In May 2024, Thiel attended a meeting at Balcarce 50 with the Argentine ambassador to the United States, Alejandro Oxenford, who later stated that the businessman was “impressed” by libertarian ideas. In his own words: “I visited Javier Milei at the Casa Rosada with Peter Thiel, who told me that he believes that Javier Milei's ideas are as relevant globally as they are
for Argentina.”
The first contact between the two dates back to February 2024, during an event organized by the Milken Institute in the city of Los Angeles. Recognized as one of Facebook's main initial investors, Thiel is part of the so-called “PayPal mafia”, a group of entrepreneurs who promoted companies such as SpaceX, Tesla, LinkedIn and YouTube.
In addition, he is the co-founder of Palantir Technologies, a key firm in the analysis of large volumes of data, with applications both in the private sector and in state agencies.
The businessman, with close ties to former US President Donald Trump and his vice-president JD Vance, is also visiting Argentina as part of an itinerary to the south of the continent to rest with his family.
He is staying in a residence and is considering acquiring properties, which could translate into future concrete investments.
With a reserved profile but with strong definitions, Thiel declares himself a libertarian and has questioned both the American political system and Silicon Valley's forms of management, arguing that “technology must overcome politics”.
