Javier Milei signed the Memorandum for Democracy and Freedom with Benjamin Netanyahu

The Argentine president reaffirmed his commitment to Israel and to the fight against terrorism and antisemitism

The Argentine president, Javier Milei, and the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, signed the Memorandum for Democracy and Freedom, which consolidates the strategic alliance between Argentina and Israel.

The event began with a speech by Netanyahu, who highlighted the personal and political ties that connect him with Milei. Subsequently, the Argentine president reaffirmed his commitment to Israel and to the fight against terrorism and antisemitism.

In this context, Milei reiterated his request for the release of the hostages who remain in the hands of the terrorist group Hamas in the Gaza Strip, among them the Argentine citizens Eitan Horn, Ariel Cunio, David Cunio, and Lior Rudaeff.

The Memorandum signed by both leaders represents a declaration of principles aimed at promoting bilateral cooperation in the fight against global terrorism and the growing antisemitism affecting the world.

Both Argentina and Israel have been victims of tragic events that have strengthened their institutional ties: the attacks on the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires in 1992 and the AMIA headquarters in 1994, perpetrated by the terrorist group Hezbollah, and the attack carried out by Hamas in October 2023.

This shared experience, marked by murders, injuries, torture, and kidnappings, constitutes the central reason supporting the signing of the Memorandum, signed by Milei and Netanyahu at the King David Hotel.

The Memorandum for Democracy and Freedom

The document represents a milestone in the relationship between two nations that have suffered from Islamic terrorist violence and antisemitic discrimination, and that now commit to working together to prevent these tragedies from recurring.

The content of the Memorandum for Democracy and Freedom was drafted by Foreign Minister Gerardo Werthein together with Ambassador Axel Wahnish, who agreed on its final version in coordination with the Office of the Israeli Prime Minister, following precise instructions from President Javier Milei.

This document constitutes a diplomatic agreement that strengthens the geopolitical alliance between Argentina and Israel, based on the shared defense of democratic values and freedom.

From its very title, "Memorandum", Milei introduces a symbolic political charge, critically alluding to the corrupt former president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and her decision to sign an agreement with Iran that sought to end the investigation into the AMIA attack, exempting from responsibility those perpetrators supported by the Tehran regime.
