Javier Milei's government announced a pay raise for the doctors at Garrahan Hospital.

The National Government, through the Ministry of Health led by Mario Lugones, announced an unprecedented increase in the income of workers at Hospital de Niños Garrahan. The measure, the result of what authorities described as "efficient and transparent management", will grant a bonus of $450,000 for doctors and healthcare staff, and $350,000 for administrative personnel.

The Board of Directors of the prestigious hospital explained in a statement that the achievement was made possible after a "process of administrative streamlining and efficiency" that ensured resources are allocated to what matters most: healthcare teams and patient care.

"Hospital Garrahan is not in an emergency. These achievements are the result of transparent management that prioritizes administrative efficiency, technological innovation, and investment in human capital, despite the constant obstacles from some sectors that defend privileges," authorities emphasized on their social media.

Minister of Health, Mario Lugones, celebrated the announcement on X, where he highlighted: "Thanks to efficient management, Garrahan is now able to improve its workers' income. We said it from the beginning: the money for the staff was in the Hospital, but it was poorly distributed. For decades, healthcare professionals have been underpaid. Today we are beginning to reverse that injustice."

Lugones also congratulated the Board of Directors for their work in organizing the accounts and allocating every peso to what truly matters: quality of care, patients, and the dignity of medical staff. "We set out to end waste and privileges so that resources return to where they always should have been: institutions, professionals, and patients. That has always been the path," he emphasized.

The bonus to be paid in September will reach doctors, nurses, biochemists, pharmacists, radiologists, sonographers, nutritionists, kinesiologists, and other healthcare professionals. The amount for this sector will be $450,000, while administrative employees will receive $350,000.

According to reports, these extraordinary amounts will be maintained for the next four months, while discussions continue regarding the implementation of the recently approved pediatric emergency in Congress. This regulation includes 12 articles aimed at restoring salaries, ensuring Garrahan's operation, and repealing the controversial residency system implemented in the past.

Despite the announcement, the general secretary of ATE Garrahan, Alejandro Lipcovich, insisted on continuing with protest measures. "This is a first achievement that doesn't solve the entire problem. Starting this Tuesday, we will carry out a new 48-hour strike," he warned. According to the leader, the granted amounts "create uncertainty" because they are not incorporated into the base salary.

Lipcovich acknowledged, however, that the granting of the bonus constitutes "a change," since in previous administrations it had been stated that the ministry would not allow it. "Since the struggle remained firm, they have to make this first concession, which we value as a temporary relief," he said, announcing a new demonstration for October 2.
