Documents recently released by the House Oversight Committee show that Jeffrey Epsteinsent real-time text messages to Democratic Representative Stacey Plaskett during a February 27, 2019, hearing in which Michael Cohen, former personal attorney to Donald Trump, was testifying about alleged hush money payments before the 2016 election.
According to records initially cited by The Washington Post, Epstein was watching the hearing on television while guiding Plaskett on possible questions that could harm then-President Trump. The exchange included a clarification about Rhona Graff, a longtime executive at the Trump Organization, mentioned by Cohen during his statement.
The messages also show that Epstein suggested Plaskett press for additional names within Trump's inner circle. Epstein identified possible "henchmen" and encouraged Plaskett to press Cohen to provide as many names as possible. Minutes after the congresswoman completed her round of questions, Epstein wrote to her "Good work".

The nearly 20,000 documents published include communications from Epstein's estate. Although Plaskett's name appears redacted in the files, The Washington Post verified her identity by matching the message times with official images from the hearing, which confirmed the simultaneity of the interactions.
After the story was released, Plaskett's office acknowledged that the congresswoman received messages from multiple people during the hearing, including Epstein, and noted that this type of informal communication is common during televised appearances. Her team mentioned that Plaskett has had a public record of fighting sexual abuse and human trafficking, as well as an explicit repudiation of Epstein's criminal conduct.
The congresswoman had already faced criticism in 2019 for having received $8,100 in donations from Epstein, funds she later pledged to stop using.
The case resurfaced this week after Donald Trump called for a federal investigation into Epstein's ties with Democratic figures and financial entities. Attorney General Pam Bondi instructed Southern District of New York prosecutor Jay Clayton to lead the investigation, assuring that it will be conducted with "urgency and integrity".
