The sad news was confirmed by his wife,Kelly McMahon, in an emotional statement released to Deadline.
"With an open heart, I wish to share with the world that my beloved husband, Julian McMahon, passed away peacefully this week after a brave effort to overcome cancer," Kelly stated. "Julian loved life, his family, his friends, his work, and his fans. His greatest wish was to bring joy to as many people as possible. We ask for respect so we can go through this mourning in private and hope that those who were touched by his light will continue to find reasons to smile," she added.

Born on July 27, 1968, in Sydney, Australia, Julian Dana William McMahon was the son of Billy McMahon, who served as Australian prime minister between 1971 and 1972. Although he ventured into modeling in his youth, he soon discovered his passion for acting. His screen debut was with a leading role in the Australian soap opera The Power, the Passion in 1989. He later joined the cast of Home and Away, another iconic Australian television production.
His international breakthrough came in 1992 with the comedy Wet and Wild Summer!, where he shared scenes with Elliott Gould. Shortly after, he settled in the United States, where he began his career in American television with the daytime soap opera Another World.

McMahon cemented his fame by playing Cole Turner, the mysterious demon who captivated Charmed fans for three seasons. However, his definitive breakthrough came with the role of Dr. Christian Troy in Nip/Tuck, Ryan Murphy's successful series about the world of plastic surgery.
