The singer Katy Perry adds a new milestone to her career: she will be part of the first all-women spaceflight since 1963, when Russian cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova made her historic solo journey.
The flight will be operated by Blue Origin, the aerospace company of billionaire Jeff Bezos. Alongside Perry, journalist Lauren Sánchez, who is also Bezos's fiancée, CBS Mornings host Gayle King, researcher Amanda Nguyen, former NASA rocket specialist Aisha Bowe, and producer Kerianne Flynn will travel. The mission is expected to launch in the northern hemisphere's spring.
A historic journey with a female mark
This flight will represent a significant advancement in the history of space exploration as the first mission composed exclusively of women in decades. Blue Origin, founded by Bezos, has been conducting tourist spaceflights since 2021 with its New Shepard rocket. To date, the company has taken 52 people to space in 10 missions.
