The elected president held meetings focused on economic, political, and security cooperation

In the context of the activities leading up to her inauguration, the elected president of Peru, Keiko Fujimori, developed an intense diplomatic agenda at the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry, where she held bilateral meetings with right-wing leaders from various countries in the region.

The meetings, held at Torre Tagle and accompanied by the designated foreign minister Carlos Espá, focused on the strengthening of cooperation in strategic areas.

The Meetings

One of the highlighted meetings was with the Argentine president, Javier Milei. During the meeting, both delegations emphasized the historical ties between Peru and Argentina and agreed on the importance of deepening the bilateral relationship in key sectors such as the economy, security, science, technology, and innovation.

The agenda continued with a bilateral meeting with the Bolivian president, Rodrigo Paz. In this case, the authorities highlighted the bicentennial of diplomatic relations celebrated in 2026, as well as the neighborhood ties between the two countries.

Additionally, the potential for cooperation arising from their status as border nations and the breadth of common interest topics on the bilateral agenda was underscored.

In another meeting, Fujimori received the president of Honduras, Tito Asfura. There, the recent boost in bilateral dialogue was highlighted, marked by the appointment of ambassadors in both countries, and a commitment was made to exchange experiences in specific areas such as port management.

A meeting was also held with the Ecuadorian president, Daniel Noboa, in which the strategic priority of the bilateral relationship since the 1998 Brasilia Peace Agreements was reaffirmed.

During the meeting, the level of political dialogue achieved through the Binational Cabinets was highlighted, and the intention to hold a new edition towards the end of this year in Lima was confirmed.

Furthermore, it was agreed to deepen cooperation on shared issues, such as insecurity, the fight against transnational organized crime, and the exchange of experiences in prison management.

In the same vein, the elected president held a meeting with the Chilean president, José Antonio Kast, where both parties expressed their willingness to consolidate political dialogue at the highest level. Among the topics discussed were common challenges such as organized crime, natural disasters, public transportation, and reforestation policies.

On the other hand, Fujimori held a meeting with the president of Paraguay, Santiago Peña, in which the historical ties between the two countries were renewed. In this context, central aspects of the shared agenda, such as regional integration and citizen security, were reviewed.

Finally, the day included a meeting with a Colombian delegation led by the elected vice president José Manuel Restrepo, representing the elected president Abelardo de la Espriella.

During the meeting, both parties agreed on the need to strengthen the bilateral relationship and advance the appointment of ambassadors to elevate the level of diplomatic representation.

In this way, the elected president of Peru consolidated a regional agenda focused on political and economic cooperation with right-wing allies, emphasizing security and development, in the lead-up to her formal arrival in power.
