The city of Córdoba was recognized by Trinity College Dublin as one of the eight emerging cities in the global technology ecosystem. The report, which will be published in 2026 by Oxford University Press, highlights its ability to attract investment and talent. Economist Giulio Buciuni described Córdoba as an "underdog" with global potential.
The analysis selected cities that are developing technology hubs outside the world's major capitals. Among them are Galway in Ireland, Reggio Emilia in Italy, and Hangzhou in China. Córdoba shares with them a model based on local talent and innovation capacity.
During his visit, Buciuni toured the city and spoke with leaders from the private sector. He held meetings with businesspeople and technology entrepreneurs. He also analyzed the growth of Córdoba-based startups linked to software and digital services.

Universities and companies as drivers of innovation
The study identified three central factors in emerging hubs. First, the presence of universities with a strong focus on science and technology. In Córdoba, the National University of Córdoba and the National Technological University stand out as generators of specialized talent.
Second, the existence of technology companies with their own products. These companies not only employ professionals but also generate innovation that expands into other sectors. A multiplier effect is observed that strengthens the ecosystem.
The third element highlighted is the available funding for early-stage projects. Private investment funds allow Córdoba-based startups to compete in the global market. Without that support, growth would be limited.

A business tradition that drives the digital sector
According to Buciuni, Córdoba has a business DNA that connects traditional industry with the new digital economy. Many companies emerge as spin-offs from industrial clusters that have transformed into technology centers. This continuity reinforces the city's productive identity.
The researcher emphasized that Córdoba doesn't need to replicate models from other cities. The key is to consolidate its own sustainable development over time. The combination of young talent, private companies, and industrial tradition sets it apart from other hubs.
The major challenge will be to prevent the migration of professionals to major capitals. Retaining talent requires more job opportunities and global competitiveness. Meanwhile, Buciuni believes Córdoba has the conditions to become a technology benchmark.
Según Buciuni, Córdoba cuenta con un ADN empresarial que conecta la industria tradicional con la nueva economía digital.
