Kristalina Georgieva highlighted Javier Milei: 'This time is different'
The official celebrated the progress made in fiscal, monetary, and social matters by Milei's administration
In the context of the International Monetary Fund's Spring Meetings 2025, the managing director of the organization, Kristalina Georgieva, once again expressed her support for the economic policies promoted by the current Argentine government of Javier Milei.
During a press conference held in Washington, the official celebrated the progress made in fiscal, monetary, and social matters, and confirmed a new financing program of 20 billion dollars.
"This time is different": the shift celebrated by the IMF
The Bulgarian economist did not hold back on praise when drawing a comparison with past administrations: "Argentina has shown that this time is different. This time there is determination to steer the economy solidly," she stated to international media.
Georgieva highlighted that the country under the leadership of Javier Milei went from recording a high fiscal deficit to achieving a surplus, while celebrating the reduction in the inflation rate and poverty indicators.

"Inflation went from double digits to a figure that in February dropped below 3%. Poverty, which exceeded 50%, now hovers around 37%. It remains very high, but it is decreasing," she noted.
A financing program thanks to macroeconomic order
The new agreement with the IMF, which involves a total disbursement of 20 billion dollars, will be aimed at consolidating the fiscal path, strengthening the Central Bank's reserves, and accelerating structural reforms. The organization especially valued the government's focus on reducing state involvement in areas considered non-priority.

"The state is withdrawing from where it shouldn't be, to allow greater dynamism of the private sector", Georgieva expressed, emphasizing the role of the productive sector as the engine of sustainable growth.
