Is Lanzini's future getting closer to Vélez?: What did Barros Schelotto say
The playmaker, sidelined at River by Marcelo Gallardo, is considering terminating his contract to join Fortín as a free agent, who has confirmed interest in him
The future of Manuel Lanzini remains one of the most important unknowns in the Argentine soccer transfer market. The midfielder, sidelined by Marcelo Gallardo, continues to train separately from the River squad and is waiting to solve his contract situation in order to get back to playing.
In recent hours, the option of Vélez has gained momentum and is emerging as the most concrete. Even Gustavo Barros Schelotto himself, Fortín's assistant coach and the head coach's brother, publicly acknowledged: "Lanzini's possibility is one we're considering. He's a player who, logically, interests us".

However, he clarified that it's not the only alternative: "There are other possibilities we're analyzing to see what's best for Vélez. We'll probably bring in a new player, which is everyone's wish in order to keep helping this team grow".
The statement reflects that the club is evaluating different options to strengthen the offensive area, but Lanzini's arrival remains a priority on Liniers's radar.
A complicated departure from River
The former West Ham player has a valid contract with River until December, which complicates his departure through a direct sale. Meanwhile, Vélez is confident that the player can terminate his contract with Millonario and arrive as a free agent, just as Rodrigo Aliendro did weeks ago.

Lanzini had already been approached by Estudiantes and other Argentine clubs, but his high salary demands stalled negotiations. As months passed, the player decided to lower his financial demands, a clear sign of his intention to continue his career in Argentina and his interest in joining Vélez.
