Despite the rumors of a possible return, finally Luis Suárez will not play his fifth World Cup with the Uruguayan National Team. According to the Charrúa journalist Rodrigo Vázquez, the Pistolero was left out of the pre-list of 55 players called up by Marcelo Bielsa for the upcoming World Cup.
The forward from Inter Miami had expressed days ago his desire to wear the sky blue jersey again and even claimed to have apologized after his criticisms following the last Copa América. "I would never say no to the national team if they need me, especially in the next World Cup", he had stated, making his intention to be clear.
However, the Argentine coach maintained his stance and decided not to include him even in the preliminary list sent to FIFA. As is customary in his cycle, the list was not made public and will only be known when it is reduced to the 26 players who will compete in the next World Cup, with a deadline of May 30.

The absence of Suárez, who had retired from the Celeste in September 2024 after a match in the South American Qualifiers against Paraguay at the Estadio Centenario, marks a definitive break in his relationship with the national team and reinforces the idea of generational change that Bielsa has been promoting since his arrival.
Meanwhile, the coaching staff is already outlining offensive alternatives with names that have an advantage, such as Darwin Núñez, Rodrigo Aguirre, and Federico Viñas, while other forwards are being considered to complete the World Cup list. The Charrúa team will debut against Saudi Arabia on June 15 in Miami for the first match of Group H, where they will also play against Cape Verde (6/21) and Spain (6/26).

In addition to Luis Suárez, another legend who will miss the 2026 World Cup is Dani Carvajal. According to reports, the Spain coach, Luis De La Fuente, decided to exclude the right-back from Real Madrid from the pre-selection.
