Leftist media outlets in the United States tried to cover up the Zarutska case.
In the face of the murder of a young Ukrainian woman in North Carolina by a savage criminal, progressive media completely ignored the case
The murder of Iryna Zarutska, a 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee, on a Charlotte, North Carolina light rail train, has caused national outrage. Zarutska was stabbed in the back on August 22 by Decarlos Brown Jr., a violent 35-year-old repeat offender with a long criminal record.
However, despite the brutality of the crime and the massive attention on social media, the main leftist media outlets in the United States have completely ignored the story.
The attack was captured by the train's security cameras and shows how Brown, without any provocation, lunges at Zarutska, stabbing her repeatedly. In the footage after the attack, he is seen walking through the train car with the bloodied knife in his hand, while other passengers flee. Zarutska, who was wearing her work uniform from a pizzeria, collapsed in her seat and died at the scene.
Zarutska had fled the war in Ukraine, seeking refuge and a new life in the United States. Her story, a young immigrant murdered in a random attack by an ex-convict with a history of violence, has sparked a wave of reactions on social media, where users expressed pain, outrage, and demanded accountability from local authorities.

Despite detailed coverage in international media, the story has been ignored by progressive outlets such as The New York Times, CNN, The Washington Post, MSNBC, BBC, and Reuters. Users on X and public figures like Elon Musk denounced this intentional omission, pointing out that not a single mention has been published by these outlets.
Musk reposted an analysis that counted how many articles these outlets had published about the case: zero. Other users accused the leftist press of covering up the case for racial reasons, since the criminal is Black and the victim was a white Ukrainian woman. Some even pointed out that, had the situation been reversed, the media coverage and outrage would have been overwhelming.
One of the viral messages said: "How can these outlets have zero articles about a violent murder and still claim to keep the public informed?" Another questioned: "Why do they ignore the crime if the victim is a young white refugee and the striker is a repeat Black criminal?"

Decarlos Brown's record is extensive and alarming. Since 2007, he has been arrested more than 14 times for crimes such as armed robbery, domestic violence, damage to private property, disturbing the peace, and misuse of 911.
In January 2025, he was arrested for calling the police claiming he had "man-made material" inside his body that controlled his actions. He was released without bail, and in August he committed the murder.
Despite his dangerousness, the judicial system and local police, led by Democratic authorities, allowed him to remain free, which has sparked criticism over the lack of action by liberal institutions to protect citizens, especially in cities like Charlotte.

Charlotte's Democratic mayor, Vi Lyles, issued a statement expressing her condolences and thanking the media outlets that decided not to broadcast the video of the crime, supposedly out of respect for the family. However, it was the local police themselves who released the video after media requests for transparency.
Lyles stated: "This was a tragic and senseless loss. I am committed to doing everything possible to make Charlotte a place where everyone feels safe." Nevertheless, many are rightly accusing her of downplaying the situation and covering up the case to avoid racial and political tensions.
