The Minister of Economy, Luis "Toto" Caputo, responded to the Kirchnerist congresswoman Marcela Pagano after the legislator filed a criminal complaint against the official and the president of the Central Bank, Santiago Bausili, for the alleged "disappearance" of 4 trillion pesos following a Treasury auction.

The official firmly rejected the corruption accusation and announced that he will take the case to court for defamation, after being falsely attributed with the commission of a crime. He also indicated that he will demand financial compensation and that the money he receives will be donated.

The minister used his X account to respond directly to Pagano's post, who had questioned the situation and demanded explanations about the destination of the funds.

In response to that accusation, Caputo assured that the questioned money does have public tracking mechanisms and denied that there is any irregularity related to his administration.

“The funds are publicly traceable, so you will be receiving a lawsuit for defamation for falsely accusing me of committing a crime. Whatever you have to pay me, I will donate to a public welfare institution,” Caputo stated.

With that response, the minister not only rejected the congresswoman's claim but also anticipated a concrete legal action against her.

The official's warning came after Pagano publicly announced that she had filed a criminal complaint against Caputo and Bausili.

The congresswoman had focused her complaint on the nearly $4 trillion that, she claimed, remained “without publicly traceable destination” and questioned the official explanations regarding the movement of those resources.

In her post, Pagano wrote: “I FILED A CRIMINAL COMPLAINT AGAINST CAPUTO AND BAUSILI. Almost $4 TRILLION of public funds remained without a publicly traceable destination. The response from the President of the Central Bank? ‘They are somewhere.’ That’s not enough.”

“The money of Argentinians is not lost, hidden, or managed in a black box. Now they will have to explain to the Justice where every peso was, who gave the order, and who benefited. THE IMPUNITY OF THE OFFICES IS OVER,” she added.

The accusation generated an immediate response from the head of the Treasury, who decided to personally reply and remind her that information about the funds can be consulted and publicly traced.

In this way, the official from Javier Milei's government rejected that the funds have an unknown destination, assured that their traceability is public, and announced a defamation lawsuit against Pagano.
