Luis Suárez spoke again about his almost arrival at River
The Pistolero said he was close to joining Millonario twice, once in 2022 and again in 2023
In an interview with streamer Davoo Xeneize, Luis Suárez, currently at Inter Miami, once again referred to the occasions when he could have been a Millonario player, although until now only one of them was publicly known. The forward admitted that he had already spoken with two historical River figures.

The first opportunity: 2022
During his chat with Davoo, Suárez revealed that he was very close to playing for River. "We were talking with the Muñeco (Marcelo Gallardo) at that time, with Enzo Pérez too. But well, they were just eliminated by Vélez and it wasn't the right time to do it," he explained.

In mid-2022, the circulating information indicated that the Pistolero was willing to sign a contract with River if the team advanced in the Copa Libertadores. At that time, the Uruguayan had become a free agent after leaving Atlético de Madrid in July, and he was interested in playing in the top continental tournament.
However, the first leg at José Amalfitani ended with a 1-0 in favor of Vélez, with a penalty goal by Lucas Janson, now a Boca player. In the return leg, the final 0-0 was marked by controversy, as a goal by Matías Suárez was disallowed near the end of the match due to an alleged handball, which sealed River's elimination and nullified the arrival of the Uruguayan forward. Finally, Suárez chose to return to Nacional of Uruguay, the club where he was trained and of which he is a fan in his home country.

A new approach in 2023
The Pistolero also revealed that River was interested in him again in the summer 2023 transfer market, after the end of his contract with Nacional and before his stint with Gremio. However, this time, he did not provide details on the reasons why the signing did not materialize.
After his time in Uruguay and Brazil, at the beginning of 2024, Suárez joined Inter Miami, where he reunited with Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets, former Barcelona teammates. Currently, he has 29 goals and 18 assists in 46 matches, although he has not yet managed to win titles with the MLS team.
