UOM and state unions will block the streets on February 5 to defend an archaic system that generates informality

On Thursday, February 5, various union leaderships from Córdoba will once again punish citizens with a demonstration toward the Government House. This measure, led by the Metalworkers Union, aims to stop the labor modernization that is necessary to put an end to the current informality. Union leaders show their contempt for independent workers by prioritizing caste privileges over the common good of society.
By opposing national reforms, these organizations defend an anachronistic framework that keeps almost 50% of the country in total informality. It is an obsolete system that prevents the creation of genuine employment and condemns millions of Argentines to live in a situation of absolute precariousness. The persistence in these archaic structures only benefits union bosses who live far removed from the economic reality of those they represent.
Córdoba society is expressing growing weariness in the face of these extortionate maneuvers that prevent the free movement through the streets of the capital. Social tolerance toward union activity that uses street chaos to pressure democratic institutions is decreasing every day. Citizens demand order and freedom to work, far from the impositions of groups that behave in a mafia-like manner throughout public roads.

Extortionate unions that defend an obsolete system
A group of 20 unions will meet this Friday at the headquarters of the local metalworkers union to coordinate the details of this show of force. Abel Furlán, UOM's secretary general, confirmed from Buenos Aires that this march to the Panal will be the starting point of a plan of struggle against productive progress. The real objective is to demand explanations for the support of Córdoba's legislators for the laws that seek to deregulate the labor market.
Meanwhile, while unions claim to protect rights, reality shows that their management has only deepened the lack of opportunities for all young people. The modernization proposed by the Executive is the only viable way out in the face of a labor model that has failed resoundingly over the last 40 years. It is paradoxical that those who claim to represent the working class are the main obstacles preventing thousands of people from obtaining decent employment.
The conflict threatens to spread to the city of Rosario on February 10 if these corporate sectors do not cease their hostility toward change. However, the will for progress of the majority of Argentines seems to be an insurmountable wall for these violent union practices. Córdoba will be the stage for a dispute in which the definitive transition toward a country with true freedom and less state interference is at stake.
