An episode of extreme tension took place on the coasts of Punta del Este during the last day of 2025. Martín Demichelis and two of his children were involved in a dramatic moment when they were dragged by the current on a José Ignacio beach and had to be urgently rescued, in an area where there were no lifeguards permanently stationed.

The images of the incident became known in recent hours through the show A la tarde (América TV), where what happened on December 31 on Laguna Escondida beach was reconstructed.

According to what was recounted on the show, the former River head coach went into the sea with his eldest son, Bastián, and other relatives, without noticing the strength of the current that began to carry them dangerously away from the shore.

"The current on the Uruguayan coast began to carry both Martín Demichelis and his son Bastián and other relatives away. There were no lifeguards at that moment, but a group of lifeguards who were occasionally passing through the area managed to rescue them", explained Karina Mazzocco when she presented the report. The host emphasized that it was a borderline situation and that the favorable outcome was the result of a true coincidence.

The show's production team specified that the episode took place on a beach that doesn't have fixed lifeguard coverage. Oliver Quiroz added that the team received a message the following Tuesday describing the episode and warning about the seriousness of the moment they experienced. The images that were released show the former River head coach floating in the water, almost covered by the waves, while other relatives also struggled to stay safe.

One of the details that made it possible to identify those involved was their clothing. On December 31, hours before the incident, Demichelis had shared on his social media family images on the beach with Bastián, his youngest daughter, and a niece, all wearing the same clothes that are later seen in the rescue videos.

The most striking aspect of the case is that Evangelina Anderson, the children's mother and the former footballer's ex-partner, was not aware of what had happened. According to journalist Santiago Sposato, the model only found out several days later, when they were flying back to Buenos Aires. "Evangelina finds out on the way back on the plane through one of her children. This happened on December 31 and she found out around January 4", the panelist detailed.

According to that reconstruction, it was Bastián who told his mother what had happened, although he did not initially convey to her the real extent of the danger. "We aren't talking about the eldest son having told her with complete clarity how serious what happened was", they clarified on the show, where they also suggested that the situation might have influenced a later personal conflict that involved Demichelis.

From Uruguay, journalist Gustavo Descalzi was categorical when he described the episode: "They're alive by a miracle". He also confirmed that there were no lifeguards on the beach at that time and that those who carried out the rescue were lifeguards who were on their way to lunch and noticed the emergency situation.
