The striker and the investigation
The shooter was identified by his uncle as Jesse Strang, 17 years old. The relative confirmed to local media that the striker identified as a trans woman and used female pronouns.
According to reports shared on social media, the teenager reportedly began his gender transition around 2023. It also emerged that he came from a family of hunting enthusiasts and that he learned to use rifles from a young age.
The authorities are investigating the origin of the weapons used in the attack; apparently, there were several at the family home. In addition, investigators detected social media accounts allegedly linked to the assailant, where images of firearms appeared, including an SKS rifle and a Desert Eagle pistol. Part of the content was deleted after the incident.

Previous posts by his mother on Facebook had reportedly mentioned behavioral problems and episodes of aggressiveness from an early age. This information now forms part of the forensic and psychological analysis being carried out by investigators.
Rising transgender violence and regret
The case once again raises the debate about an increasingly troubling pattern of transgender violence that has caused the deaths of many people, including children, in North America.
Criminology specialists warn that school shooters’ profiles usually include a history of social isolation. They also include prior violent behavior and access to weapons in the immediate environment.

Meanwhile, the Tumbler Ridge community remains in a state of shock. Psychological support teams were deployed to provide assistance to affected students, teachers, and families.
It was discovered that the striker represented what the outlet described as a "typical case of regret". In his manifesto, he wrote repeatedly that he regretted having transitioned to a woman and having changed his name to Robin. "I am tired of being trans, I wish I had never been brainwashed", he wrote, adding that he was fed up with his hair and wanted to cut it.
