Matías Soulé confessed that he turned down playing for Atlético Madrid.

The current Roma player revealed that he had the opportunity to join the team led by Cholo Simeone as soon as he left Argentine football

In a context where it is difficult to imagine an Argentine player rejecting the possibility of playing for Atlético de Madrid with many compatriots, several of them figures of the World Cup-winning team, Matías Soulé surprised by revealing that he had that chance, but chose another destination.

The current Roma player revealed in an interview with Il Romanista that when he was still playing for Vélez, not only did Juventus want to sign him, but also Monaco and Atlético itself. However, his decision was immediate: he leaned toward Italy and signed with the Vecchia Signora in 2021, at just 16 years old, using parental authority.

"I was at Vélez, but I didn't have a contract yet and several teams wanted me. Among them Juventus, Monaco, and Atlético de Madrid. But I decided to come to Italy. I didn't even think about it," explained the young attacking midfielder, who after debuting in Serie A was loaned to Frosinone for the 2023/2024 season.

A possible reunion with Allegri in Rome

Soulé also referred to the possibility of reuniting with Massimiliano Allegri, his former coach at Juventus, who is rumored to be a candidate to replace Claudio Ranieri in Rome. "I learned a lot from him. I think his ways of playing are similar to Ranieri's: keeping the team compact, not taking risks in the middle, and going out when possible," he noted.

He also recalled a valuable piece of advice given by the outgoing coach when he first joined the capital team: "It was clear that he already knew I had some difficulties. He told me 'play simple, and with time the rest will come'."

Goal in the classic and total emotion

That advice seems to have started to bear fruit. Soulé is gradually getting more minutes on the field and was a protagonist in the last classic against Lazio, where he scored a great goal to tie 1-1.

"It was something beautiful, very special. I didn't expect it. During the celebration, I didn't even know what to do. It was a shame not to have won, but the emotion was unique," concluded the Argentine, who is beginning to establish himself in the elite of Italian football.
