Máximo Kirchner deepened the internal war of Peronism and directly challenged the presidential project of Axel Kicillof by demanding a candidacy from the convicted Cristina Kirchner for 2027, during an event in Carmen de Areco where La Cámpora once again displayed its resistance to the political framework of the Buenos Aires governor. “We want Cristina to be our candidate,” stated the national deputy, while Kirchnerism accelerates the search for an alternative to prevent Kicillof from consolidating as the successor within the Justicialist Party.
The son of the former president participated in the meeting called by Iván Villagrán, a camporista mayor of Carmen de Areco and one of the local leaders who reject the governor's national project. From there, Kirchner launched a series of messages aimed at the internal conflict and made it clear that the sector he leads is not willing to accept Axel's presidential candidacy.
“When we propose that she be our candidate, we do not want to mess up anyone's life and destiny. It's not that we are doing something evil,” said Máximo Kirchner, referring to Kicillof and his political ambitions. “We are going to fight against whatever we have to fight,” he assured, while advocating for political organization and calling on Kirchnerist militancy to get involved in electoral construction.
The insistence on a candidacy for Cristina Kirchner occurs despite the fact that the former president is serving a sentence for corruption in the Vialidad case and is disqualified from holding public office. In this scenario, La Cámpora maintains the narrative of a supposed “proscription” and uses the figure of the former president as the main tool to contest the leadership of the PJ.
