A mechanic lost his life this Friday after being trapped under a bus that collapsed on him while he was performing repair work in a workshop in the southwest of Rosario The incident occurred around 12:30 at the intersection of Ovidio Lagos and Montecarlo, within the facilities of the company Elásticos Saita SRL.
According to testimonies gathered at the scene, the hydraulic jack that was holding the vehicle failed abruptly. As the safety blocks were not in place, the vehicle fell with all its weight on the two workers who were underneath. One of them died on the spot and the other suffered serious injuries.
The deceased victim was preliminarily identified as José Luis M. The personnel from the Integrated Emergency Health System (SIES) attempted to revive him in the workshop, but the cardiopulmonary resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful. The other affected worker, Mario Eduardo P., 59 years old, sustained injuries to his hip, a lower limb, and his chest.
After being stabilized at the scene, Mario Eduardo P. was urgently transferred to the Clemente Álvarez Emergency Hospital (HECA), where he remains hospitalized. Health authorities confirmed that his injuries are serious, although no further details about his immediate condition were provided.
Emergency intervention and investigations
Upon receiving the alert, police personnel and two ambulances from SIES quickly arrived at the workshop. While one of the units attended to the seriously injured, the other focused on attempts to revive the deceased mechanic. The Accident Investigation Unit of the Police Investigations (PDI) was also present, initiating investigations to precisely determine the causes of the incident.
The company where the accident occurred has been in the elastic and vehicle repair business for around 30 years. The workshop is located in an area of intense commercial and industrial activity in southwest Rosario, which facilitated the rapid arrival of emergency services.
Investigators are working under the hypothesis that the lack of basic safety measures, particularly the placement of safety blocks, was a decisive factor in the tragic outcome. The hydraulic jack failed without any additional protection to prevent the bus from falling.
Such workplace accidents in mechanic workshops are often linked to failures in lifting devices or omissions in safety protocols. In this case, the investigations by the Accident Investigation Unit will seek to determine whether the equipment had any prior defects or if it was a handling error.

So far, no other victims or additional material damages have been reported. The lack of safety blocks appears to be one of the central elements that investigators will analyze in the coming hours to establish responsibilities.
