Mendoza experienced a weekend of strong tourist activity, driven by an agenda that combined major sporting events, concerts, gastronomy, culture, wine tourism, and nature-related proposals.

This information is particularly relevant because it was not a long weekend nor was it associated with a special tourist date. The arrival of visitors was directly related to the various events organized in the province, which served as new reasons to travel, stay, and explore the main destinations in Mendoza.

Among the main attractions were the match between Los Pumas and Australia, the game between Boca Juniors and Gimnasia y Esgrima de Mendoza, and the shows by Fatboy Slim, Kapanga, and La Konga.

According to data from the Mendoza Tourism Entity's Tourist Observatory (EMETUR), during the weekend 40,937 visitors arrived in the province, with an estimated average spending of $108,261.23 per person per day.

In total, the tourist activity represented $8,863.78 million for the Mendoza economy.

“The agenda is also a tool for tourism promotion”

The president of the Mendoza Tourism Entity, Gabriela Testa, highlighted the impact that a broad and diverse events agenda has on sustaining tourism throughout the year.

“When we have an attractive, diverse, and quality agenda, people find a reason to travel, stay, and enjoy Mendoza”, Testa stated.

The official explained that major events not only generate movement among those specifically attending a concert, match, or gathering, but also allow visitors to discover other attractions in the province.

In this regard, she noted that those arriving for an event can take advantage of their stay to visit wineries, enjoy gastronomy, explore landscapes, shop, and get to know different Mendoza destinations.

The strategy thus aims to distribute tourist activity throughout the year and reduce dependence on long weekends and traditional seasons.

Los Pumas, Boca, and a high-impact music lineup

Sports were one of the major protagonists of the weekend. On Saturday the 5th, Gimnasia y Esgrima de Mendoza hosted Boca Juniors, generating significant movement around football.

On the same day, the Malvinas Argentinas Stadium was the venue for the match between Los Pumas and Australia, an international encounter that attracted rugby fans and visitors.

The sports agenda was complemented by a strong musical offering. On Friday, Fatboy Slim performed at the Mendoza Equestrian Club, while Kapanga played at the Ángel Bustelo Auditorium and La Konga did the same at Arena Maipú.

The combination of shows allowed for attracting different audiences and generating movement in various parts of the province.

More than 8,700 tourists arrived for the events

The impact of the sports and musical events was also specifically measured by the Tourist Observatory.

According to official data, the events generated 8,701 additional tourists in the urban agglomeration, with an estimated direct economic injection of $1,883.92 million.

The Greater Mendoza area also reached an 80% occupancy rate on Saturday the 5th, a day considered the peak of the weekend. This percentage represents an almost 20% increase compared to the usual weekends in August.

The extension of the snow season also contributed to the movement and allowed for the continued arrival of international visitors, especially from Brazil.

The impact extended to different sectors of the provincial economy, including hotels, restaurants, transportation, travel agencies, wineries, shops, and tourism providers.

Gastronomy, culture, wine, and nature completed the agenda

The gastronomic activity had one of its highlights at the 7th Forum on Origin and Gastronomic Identity of Mendoza, held in San Martín, which brought together more than 800 participants.

The meeting highlighted local products, flavors, and traditions, in addition to generating another reason to explore the interior of the province.

This was complemented by a wide cultural program, featuring musical and theatrical performances, dance proposals, visual arts exhibitions, and various activities for residents and visitors.

The agenda coexisted with Mendoza's permanent offerings related to wine, gastronomy, and nature, three of the main pillars of the provincial tourism activity.

Among the proposals, the cycle “Landscapes with the Flavor of Mendoza ‘In Bloom’” stood out, combining tours of Mendoza's landscapes with gastronomic experiences and local products.

The movement reached different destinations in Mendoza

The impact of the weekend was not exclusively concentrated in Greater Mendoza. The arrival of visitors also generated movement in Alta Montaña, Cacheuta, Potrerillos, and the Uco Valley.

The provincial strategy precisely seeks for major events to serve as a gateway for tourists to discover other attractions and extend their stay.

The balance thus left a new example of Mendoza's potential to generate tourism from an agenda of activities throughout the year, combining major shows with the traditional offerings of the province.

For the provincial government, the challenge is to continue strengthening that agenda and create new reasons to attract both national and international tourists as well as locals.

With 40,937 visitors and an economic impact exceeding $8.8 billion, last weekend once again demonstrated that events can become a driving force for tourism and for the entire Mendoza economy.
